Today's @teachthought 30-day blogging challenge asks bloggers the following question:
Which learning trend captures your attention the most, and why? (Mobile learning, project-based learning, game-based learning, etc.)
Having just tweeted this you will understand that I am prone to scepticism about many of the latest bandwagons in education:
However, there are areas where I think real changes are starting to be made. By no means the least of these is in the area of blended learning and flipped classrooms.
When my daughter (Year 11) needed help with her maths homework the other day, and my rusty efforts merely served to compound her confusion, she turned to YouTube. Sure enough, she was able to find a clip that helped her, copy the steps and make progress. More and more I think teachers need to make use of online technologies to supplement what goes on in the classroom. I know I need to think much more carefully about maximising the productive use of my time and that of my pupils in lessons. Tasks that are better tackled alone, or out of the classroom, need to be weeded out. The possibilities are exciting.
